Self-introduction
My name is Shin Hayashi, and I joined iTHEMS as a visiting scientist in July 2023. I am a mathematician working on topology, especially index theory and K-theory. I am interested in topological invariants, some quantities which do not change under perturbation of the systems. I am also interested in topological insulators, a topic in condensed matter physics, and my recent studies are concerned with topologies related to corner states, a characteristic of higher-order topological insulators. Based on my modest experience, I think that ideas and viewpoints from physics offer intriguing insights into mathematics. I hope to interact with many researchers in iTHEMS.
