We will hold our annual in-house gathering, “iTHEMS NOW & NEXT 2027,” on July 13–14, 2027, followed on July 15 by a meeting in preparation for the next Advisory Council, which is scheduled to take place in 2028.

iTHEMS NOW & NEXT provides an important opportunity for all iTHEMS members, including visiting researchers and new members, to gain a comprehensive overview of the Center’s current activities, to learn about research beyond their own fields, and to discuss where iTHEMS should go next.

As in previous years, the two-day program will present activities across iTHEMS, including those of its divisions, research teams, working groups and study groups, together with research presentations and poster sessions by iTHEMS members. Particular emphasis will be placed on communication across disciplinary and organizational boundaries and on identifying emerging research directions and opportunities for new collaborations.

The 2027 meeting will also have an additional role in looking further ahead. The next iTHEMS Advisory Council is scheduled for 2028. We will therefore use this year’s NOW & NEXT as an opportunity to review what iTHEMS has achieved, consider its strengths and challenges, and discuss its future scientific and organizational directions from a Center-wide perspective.

Following NOW & NEXT, a meeting in preparation for the next Advisory Council will be held on July 15. Building on the presentations and discussions of the preceding two days, this meeting will provide an opportunity to examine how best to present and evaluate the activities, achievements, and future vision of iTHEMS in preparation for the 2028 Advisory Council.

Through these three consecutive days, we hope not only to share where iTHEMS is now and where it is heading next, but also to think collectively about the longer-term development of the Center.
