Quantum Information & Gravity (QuIG)
The Quantum Information & Gravity (QuIC) Working Group aims to cover topics related to the interplay between quantum information and quantum gravity and bring together researchers from iTHEMS and the RIKEN-Berkeley Center through seminars and workshops. (May 1st, 2026 - )
Objectives
The discovery of AdS/CFT brought numerous insights to our understanding of quantum gravity and spacetimes. In particular, the findings such as Ryu-Takayanagi formula, holographic quantum error correcting codes and replica wormholes, which are all closely related to quantum information theory, had deep impacts on our study of quantum gravity. It is further expected that there will be more to come, such as new applications and interplays with de Sitter space, von Neumann algebras, matrix models, non-equilibrium physics and so on. This working group aims to cover and discuss these newly developed directions, by gathering researchers working in the closely related fields and further build new collaborations. Furthermore, the working group aims to tighten the relationship with the research community at the RIKEN-Berkeley Center.
We plan to gather once a month to hold seminars and discussions, which will be open to all iTHEMS and RIKEN-Berkeley members. Furthermore, we plan to hold a workshop every year in order to reach the broader communities.
