Math Study Group
The Math Study Group provides a platform for learning, discussion, and collaboration in mathematics at iTHEMS, promoting mathematics not only as a specialized discipline but also as a common language connecting diverse research areas.
Objectives
The Math Study Group aims to strengthen the mathematical culture of iTHEMS by fostering an open and collaborative environment in which researchers from diverse backgrounds can engage with mathematical ideas, communicate across disciplines, and explore new research directions. To achieve this goal, the group organizes a range of activities, including seminars, lecture series, and learning sessions. In order to balance broad accessibility with depth in specialized topics, these activities are classified into the following three categories:
- Introductory
Activities in this category introduce fundamental concepts, methods, and perspectives in specific areas of mathematics, providing an accessible entry point for those who wish to broaden their view of mathematics. - Interdisciplinary
Activities in this category focus on themes at the interface between mathematics and other disciplines, highlighting both the mathematical methods underlying concrete problems and the ways in which ideas from neighboring fields can stimulate new mathematical questions. - Advanced
Activities in this category address more specialized topics at a higher mathematical level, including recent developments in pure and applied mathematics.
These categories are intended as a flexible framework rather than rigid divisions, allowing activities to combine accessibility and depth. Through these efforts, the Math Study Group seeks to enhance intellectual exchange within iTHEMS, lower barriers between disciplines, and contribute to the broader scientific community.
