Catherine BEAUCHEMIN, a new member of the College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists from the Royal Society of Canada
iTHEMS Senior Visiting Scientist Catherine BEAUCHEMIN from Ryerson University was selected for a new member of the College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists from the Royal Society of Canada. The ceremony will take place in November 2017. The citation reads “Catherine Beauchemin founded the field of virophysics, a branch of biophysics in which the theoretical tools and quantitative rigour of physics are brought to bear on problems in virology. Her creative and innovative use of mathematical and agent-based models to analyse virus infection dynamics, incorporating important virological details, have resulted in significant advances in theoretical virology and the understanding of influenza virus infections, which have earned her international recognition.”

Program Director Hatsuda awarded Toray Science and Technology Prize
iTHEMS program director, Tetsuo Hatsuda was awarded 57th Toray Science and Technology Prize for his pioneering theoretical studies on the quark structure of nuclei. The awarding ceremony was taken place at the Industry Club of Japan on March 15th, 2017.
