Mathematical Social Science Team studies collective social phenomena—such as cooperation, competition, opinion dynamics, and the evolution of norms and institutions—using mathematical approaches. We analyze how individuals, organizations, and nations interact to shape social dynamics, applying tools from evolutionary game theory, network science, and complex systems science.
Our research covers diverse topics. For example, we study social dilemmas, where rational individual choices may lead to undesirable group outcomes. Through such work, we aim to develop a theoretical foundation that contributes to designing more sustainable and resilient societies.
