Self-introduction
Hi! I’m Álvaro, a theoretical physicist interested in the fundamental aspects of nature, with a main focus on high-energy physics (both theoretical and phenomenological).
Before joining iTHEMS, I completed my PhD jointly at the Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics and the Institute for Theoretical Physics at Heidelberg University in Germany. In my thesis, I used non-perturbative functional methods, such as the functional renormalisation group, to explore the phase structure of new physics scenarios beyond the Standard Model of particle physics.
My current research is centered on the open fundamental questions in particle physics and how to tackle them using advanced quantum field theoretical techniques. I’m particularly interested in non-perturbative approaches to renormalization and their applicability to strongly coupled or non-perturbatively renormalizable theories. These may be realized as new physics that could address the puzzles and problems in our understanding of nature.
I’m always happy to discuss new ideas- please feel free to drop by office 456 in the main research building!
