2025 iTHEMS Visit by the University of California San Diego Global Seminar Program

On July 10, the University of California San Diego Global Seminar Program visited iTHEMS. The delegation included Dr. Stanley Lo, Teaching Professor in the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology at the School of Biological Sciences, together with 28 undergraduate students.

The purpose of the visit was to learn about iTHEMS and its research activities while supporting the students’ learning about human diversity and the relationship between science and society.

Leo Speidel, Mathematical Genomics RIKEN ECL Research Unit Leader at iTHEMS, hosted the lecture. He introduced his academic and professional background and presented his research on development and application of new mathematical and statistical techniques to reveal the evolutionary forces that have shaped our DNA, from key events in a nation’s recent past to the earliest days of our species.
